Oneonta is the dam of:

  • Ophelia - 2007 filly by Favory Ilka I

Oneonta (nicknamed "Onie") was originally bought by Nessa, a student of ours, to be her personal riding horse after falling in love with the Lipizzan breed by riding one of our lesson horses, but in her heart she was really meant to be with a young stallion we had bred (Siglavy Sophia Dahlia a.k.a. "Romeo"), and we all ultimately knew it. So, it was an obvious that a trade was eventually in order. So, in September of 2005, Nessa brought Oneonta to us and took home a newly gelded "Romeo".

Nessa had ridden Oneonta out on trails fairly extensively, so when Oneonta came to us, she was ready for her formal training to begin. She soon proved herself to be a kind, generous, and enjoyable horse to ride. Her training smoothly progressed to 1st level with some 2nd level lateral work. In Summer of 2006, Oneonta made her Performance Debut, ridden by Thomas Ritter in the Mare Quadrille (photos below by Amelia Gagliano).

That Summer, Oneonta was bred to the Lipizzan stallion, Favory Ilka I, and conceived easily on one cover. In July 2007, after an easy and uneventful pregnancy, Oneonta delivered a beautiful filly (with an equally uneventful delivery) who was subsequently named Ophelia. Oneonta took to motherhood with her characteristic grace and kindness, and proved to be a phenomenal mother. Ophelia proved to have inherited her mother's gentle grace and excellent disposition. To top that off, she has Oneonta's beautiful conformation and expressive movement. We suspect she will prove to be as easy to train and ride as her mother, once the time comes for her training to begin as well.

When it came time to wean Ophelia, Oneonta resumed her training. Again in 2008, Oneonta was included in the Mare Quadrille in our Summer Performances. It was in 2008 that we began to incorporate Oneonta into our lesson horse program, and she proved herself to be a kind, encouraging, and patient teacher, as well as very safe, obedient, and dependable. We continue to use her for lessons several days a week, and we school her the other days. She is offered for sale to a home that can appreciate this wonderful mare.

Onie is a wonderful, safe, and super-kind riding horse with three lovely gaits. She is very easy to sit. She has produced one very nice filly and was an easy breeder and excellent mother. She is reluctantly being offered for sale. Help us find a super home for this super mare!

SOLD! - Congratulations to Ann Doyle!
